   Powell’s remorse rings shallow. He knew what he was doing and he knew it was a pack of lies that would cause the death of many. He is a criminal and will never have a shred of credibility.

   I agree with J P. As I recall, his words in a press conference were: We KNOW he has them, and we WILL find them. (WMD) Obviously he did not know beyond the shadow of a doubt. He gambled his credibility on this war, and he’ll never get it back.

   Powell brought dishonor to the entire US military, as the generals defending torture, assassination, and immoral/illegal POW treatment have done - it will come back to haunt the US military for generations to come. Eisenhower was in over his head politically - he made many mistakes while in office, but most of them were from ignorance, not arrogance. Powell, Sanchez, and the rest have no such excuses. They knew exactly what they were doing - that is patently dishonorable. But then, look what happened to Shinseki for telling the truth.

   Science makes progress because theories are tested and discarded if they don’t work.

   Good men come up with good policies or theories. Good men (Einstein e.g.) are rare.

   Bad men are also rare. They ignore the evidence that their policies or theories don’t work. Power must be taken away from bad men (shrubs).

   Democracy works when common men (neither bad nor good) respect each other and work together.

   These are men who are no longer afraid to speak their minds, they are now financially secure and no longer a part of the machine that once feed them and their families. They now free to speak their true minds.

   It should be no surprise to any of us that this the case,
   for many man as sold his soul for a piece of bread. Fear is powerful weapon.

   If you haven’t seen the movie “V For Vendetta” I recommend it.

   I agree and compliment the comentators who see Powell for the dishonest sychopant he’s showed himself to be. He knew the WMD deal all along and lied. One commentator generously observed that he had a family, etc., to support but now that he’s free of the economic leash, etc. Several things: WE paid him, not Bush and Chaney, he swore to serve his country and, finally, he’s getting paid quite handsomely now, so how does one know if he’s telling the “truth” or is still in it for the dough. My vote is that he’ll say pretty much anything for the dough. I wouldn’t pay a nickle to hear him if he were on fire.

   Neocons said the Iraqis will love us. We will bring freedom and peace to the whole Middle East so Powell lied for Peace. Powell was wrong to do it but he saw that it did not work and left them.

   The Neocons and their Chief still think they did the right thing. Lets throw them out before they come up with a new plan. Is there anything they have done that made something better? They have made the upper 1 or 2% of America wealthier but not better.

   I felt the same way when the revealed that President Ford was against the war too … there was another who didn’t speak up when there was time. And how about William Buckley, Jr., who officially broke with the President’s policy on the war last year? In the meantime, his National Review has been a neocon soapbox.

   The temptation to side with power is just too strong.
