Nice psychoanalysis but I think that rather than a disassociative state, Bush is a cynical, contemptuous sociopath with a narcisistic personality disorder. His contempt for everyone has exceptions where he instead regards someone else as flawlessly superior because they are not only as ruthless as himself but exude what he most craves — an aura of power and self confidence, ie, Ariel Sharon, Dick Cheney, and initially, Vladimir Putin. As in Putin’s case, reverence can change to contempt at the drop of a hat once he is disillusioned or feels rejected.
He has unrealistic goals but beleives that ruthless, force, “will to power” will succeed and that to reconsider would be weakness. He is being manpulated by Cheney and others for ideological purposes. He and they present a clear and present danger not only to the US but to the world. They do not play by any set of laws and we cannot afford to pretend that this is anything less then a crisis situation. They must be removed from power before they can do any further damage and judging by the rehetoric and lies beigh circulated regarding Iran, we don’t have much time.
I think you’re both right — he’s disassociated from reality, and he’s psychopathic and a narcissist as well.
He has poor reasoning skills as evidenced by the debates and how he reacted to hearing about 9/11 by continuing to read “My Pet Goat” and looking lost.
I think he sees everything in black-and-white, good-vs.-evil, religious terms and just doesn’t know very much (though he thinks he does, which is scary). He’s been obsessed with Saddam Hussein and probably wanted to outdo his daddy. I hope Congress finally does something to stop him! He’s scary.

Bush is a simple-minded dry drunk who is held under the sway of unscrupulous political and corporate leaders. Money talks, especially where the spineless are concerned. Bush and his cabal don’t see government’s purpose as being to advance the public good. Instead, as powerful despots have done throughout history, the public monies and human resources have been funneled into military adventures whose purposes have centered around big money traders and businesses.
If Democrats do not stop acting and speaking like Republican apologists, I suggest voting all the turds out in favor of plain speaking honest folks like Barbara Lee and Jim Webb.
“The transition from democracy to tyranny, Plato says, is most easily brought about by a popular leader who knows how to exploit the class antagonism between the rich and the poor within the democratic state, and who succeeds in building up…a private army of his own. The people who have hailed him first as the champion of freedom are soon enslaved; and then they must fight for him in ‘one war after another which he must stir up…because he must make the people feel the need of a general’. With tyranny, the most abject state is reached.” (Popper, “The Open Society and Its Enemies, 1962, Vol 1, p.44)
“He has staked his presidency on it.”
If it were only limited to his presidency. It isn’t. The fate of American troops, Iraqi troops and civilians, all possible hope for a quiescent Middle East are being staked on his insanity. I have asked more than one elected official what is to be done with an insane president, and they tell me impeachment is the only answer. But, buuuuuuut, who is going to testify to his insanity other than those who are “out to get him and keep him from successfully achieving his plan for victory?” If he can’t hear it now, he ain’t every gonna hear it. And if there’s no one in a powerful enough position to have him declared mentally incompetent, we have no hope other than to that of expecting our enemy to be more sane than is he. And you can add paranoid to his list. “He can only be trusting of those who purport to trust him. Never betray him. (paraphrased) Good grief, do the citizens of America have to start writing to the Middle Eastern governments and asking them to pardon this elected mistake in order to keep the destined retailiation from occuring?
jd
ok. so he’s crazy. we’ve known that for awhile now. the question is, what now is he capable of. he’s a coward being backed into a corner, and that makes him very dangerous. i’ll wager he starts wwIII. in fact, i’ll go so far as to say he already has!
There is little doubt that Bush is delusional or disassociated from facts, but it is not as the author wants us to believe.
The author cunningly blames the victim, the Iraqi people, for not having the dream of democracy, that supposedly had overtaken our president.
No, this is pure imperial B.S. For decades the US-Inc and its Anglo ally helped and used dictators in the Middle East to exploit their resources. When Saddam was mass murdering his people, when he was using chemical weapons against Kurds and Iranians the US-Inc supported him in many ways. Then, it was time to dispose him, he was given a deceptive wink to invade Kuwait, which ultimately helped the US-Inc to establish in the region.
Then, the US-Inc decided to leave Israel as the only duper power in the region, with no challenge, together with its Anglo club decided to invade Iraq. WMD, al-Qaida, democracy, freedom, were all lies to reach that goal.
Bush and his Crusader-Neocon-Zionist allies never ever dreamed to bring or bestow democracy to Iraq. This is one of the biggest lies sold to the world, even swallowed by some Bush critics.
You do not dream to bring democracy to a region while you STILL support Saudi kings, Pakistani dictators, Egyptian Pharaohs, and Zionist fascists. You do not dream democracy by awing and shocking the capital city of a country for days and kill their children and rape and torture them. You do not dream democracy if you are using an unjustified war to profit big oil and construction companies. You do not dream democracy if you are paying billions of dollars to the psychopaths and murderers of your country to kill on whim anyone they dislike. You do not dream democracy, if you are using one sect against another and DELIBERATELY planting the seed of civil war. You cannot be dreaming democracy if you have directly or indirectly caused the death of more than 700,000 Iraqis and still continue exporting there soldiers, people who are trained to destroy and kill.
No, Bush and his company are not dreaming nor they are incompetent. They are doing exactly what they planned long time ago. To create such a chaos and trauma in a land envied by Zionists and Oilmen, so that at the end, they could declare: “These people does not appreciate democracy and freedom. We are civilized; but they are barbarians. They need to be ruled by cruel dictators. So, we should plant US-Friendly dictators, rather than US-hostile dictators.”
Yes, this is the nightmare PLANNED by the hegemon, by the imperialist beasts. Our media and intelligentsia, unfortunately, are playing their tune.
Peace,
Edip Yuksel

Blame for Bush’s Disastrous Policies
Blame for the dreadful consequences of Bush’s policies, including his unparalleled war on science, environmental sellouts and ill conceived & misguided warin iraq, falls not on Bush; Instead it lies on the apathetic people who voted for him thus helping him steal both two elections, the five Supreme ourt Justices who violated their oath when planting him in office, and our legislators who have allowed this aimless and capricious behavior from a president.
It’s surprising to see that people are surprised that them with the gold makes the rules. That they don’t care about you unless you give them money and power. Forget them. Vote Green Party.
