I hope Bush’s war destroye’s the Republican party.Bush/Cheney and the Republican’s have tried to destroy our constitution and way of life as we know it.Bush/Cheney should be impeached then tried as war criminal’s. I can’t stand the sight of either of these criminal’s
i hate to say it now, but i have been a registered republican most of my life…of course it is no longer the same party that i grew up with so i would agree that it needs to die ALONG WITH the democrats who are just as corrupt
People are running from the term “Republican” just like they are the term “Christian” these days.
And I agree with ballerina. Both parties are overdue for a proper burial.
You can smell it.
I’d love for Schaller to be right, but I know too many Republicans who just shrug off the excesses, lies, and failures of the Bush/ Cheney/ Rumsfeld Axis of Evil. They will continue to support their corrupt and morally bankrupt party because they think they might get a few bucks in tax cuts or stock gains. Even the repentent Republican above caveats her(?) disgust for her party with “Dems are just as corrupt.” They’re not. They have never shown the disdain to America, its citizens and its Constitution that this gang exhibits daily. Just listen to the sarcasm in Bush’s, Cheney’s, and Tony Snow’s voices when they are forced to talk to the “common folk” who are just too stupid to understand their grand plans.
But if both parties are truly ready for burial, lets throw the corrupt plutocrats of the supreme court in the grave while we’re at it…
The Democratic Party is naive, weak, gutless, lazy, incompetent and often corrupt. Frankly, any adverse adjective you want to use is probably applicable and especially to the current national leaders.
The only thing going for it is that the Republicans are downright scary and seem actively engaged in dismantling our democracy, attacking our Constitution, substituting our set of fairness and equality values with greed, and marginalizing our middle and lower classes.
Who needs enemies when the Repubs are in charge?
So now the Americans have started to surmise that political parties shouldn’t be rooted for like sports teams.
People making good money are arrogantly proud to refer to themselves as Republicans. Hrumph. They think it puts them in company with the A-team and hold scorn for those that don’t pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Good Christians all, they know what’s right because the gold plated preacher tells them so.
Conversely, those that perceive themselves in the lower end of economics declare themselves Democrats. They’re the underdogs, just like Jesus. They want the A-team to contribute more to the B-squad thinking there must be more government cheese made available.
Well, now that it’s become apparent that the two party’s officials are really members of their own team, the All-Star team. They stand for nothing except their own enrichment. It’s a game to them and the citizens are the mindless fans waving banners and buying paraphernalia.
Go team.
I can hardly think of a fate more befitting a political party that has done more to destroy the nation that they sought to mold into their demented image of how things should be than for George W. Bush to drag the Republicans into the infamy and oblivion that it so richly deserves along with him.
George W. Bush gives less than a damn about our troops’ safety and welfare and Dick Cheney cares even less if that were possible.
The Republican Party has beyond a shadow of a doubt been the party of the richest, by the richest and for the richest for decades.
Our nation may desperately need at least two political parties to maintain balance but neither one of the parties should be the Republicans. I am not altogether sure that the other party, i.e. Democrats should be the other of the two.
The political parties that control our national destiny are indeed just the tools and the puppets of the giant corporations which are in actuality the government of the United States. Our country is governed by and for the benefit of these corporations exclusively. You may be sure that the interests of corporations and the those of the average American have absolutely nothing in common.
The economy that the idiot in the White House is so proud of is only good if you are a corporate executive, a major stockholder, a mutual fund manager/stock broker, a welathy investor or a venture capitalist. The economy that Bush and his ilk love is the Wall Steet economy which is the most perverted picture of the true economy that there could ever be. Almost everything that causes Wall Street to be exultant is bad news for the Average American (e.g. layoffs-stocks go up, outsourcing-stocks go up, offshoring of jobs-stocks go up and on and on and on).
The real economy for the average American is a shrinking pie in which the corporate masters of our current ‘government’ are hell-bent on exportation of every single job now performed in the US to slave-wage labor economies most notably India and China. (The exception to that rule is fast food ‘under-employment’ for which they are importing immigrants in droves, legal and otherwise.)
The situation here is nothing more or less than a war of the have’s against the have-not’s. The have’s are definitely winning.
Personally, I have no problem seeing any politician who has betrayed our nation’s electorate been tried, convicted and punished severely tried for their crimes against our nation and its citizens. When politicians whore themselves to these corporate interests that should in fact be considered a form of treason. Those who have sworn to preserve, protect and defend our Constitution should have to answer for their willful actions to the detriment of that nation’s people and its Constitution.
I weep for our nation.
“Let’s remember not to overgeneralize”, she said matronizingly. Just as there are some “good republicans”, the Democratic Party is not a monolithic being with one voice. For starters, compare the DLC, Rahm Emannuel and Hillary Clinton branch (many more corporate friends) of the party with the Howard Dean branch, which worked tirelessly and (mostly) successfully to elect progressive, energetic new blood into Congress. Pay attention to these new representatives. Even some of the new Republicans are more progressive than their entrenched seniors.
The best example of the different democratic approaches was the Duckworth/Segalis primary race. Lovely showhorse candidate, powered by tons of DCCC money, versus grassroots powerhouse who almost beat Henry Hyde in her first go-round. Segalis was more likely to have had the organization, conviction, passion to have withstood the blasts from the Republican Party. Tammy Duckworth wasn’t a candidate until Mr. Emmanuel and company tapped her as an “electable” Iraq War Vet. Google for more info.
OK Good People, we have all heard the usual litany of how ineffective the 2-party system is in the US, with both sides pandering to their corporate funders in efforts to boost their ego. But rather than the continual complaints that I keep hearing here, how about *doing* something.
Shock!
I am a fan of Ghandi’s non-violent protest. How about a nation-wide general-strike to tell our politicians to vote no on the renewed funding for Iraq and Afghanistan? We the People hold all the power in the US, not the politicos. And it is so easy to do-nothing for 1 day. Its not like we have to get up and go to a job we hate. Just stay in bed, play with the kids, walk the dog. And repeat, until We the People bring the politicos to heel and do what we want.
Consider a General Strike on May 1.
Even the “good Republicans” are no good. I registered as a Republican in my home state so I could vote for Arlen Specter, an old-time supposedly moderate compromiser, over his neo-fascist primary rival. But even Specter talks one way and votes another, rarely putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to breaking with the Bush administration and the rest of his party’s scum. Cunningham, Lott, Delay, Hastert, Cheney – all these liars and more are protected by their partisan buddies, too often including some of the “good” ones.
Since at least WW II the Republicans have stood for the rich and powerful at the expense of 90% of Americans. The fact that their party should have a single elected representative, no less come to control all branches of the government, is a tribute not only to their organization, ruthlessness, and message manipulation, but the stupidity of the American lower- and middle-class voter who, lured by promises of tax cuts and small government and snowed by lies about family values and immigration reform, continue to send their own executioners back to Washington.
You can always tell what a republican is up to because they will accuse you of doing it. When the republicans in Florida disrupted the vote recount in Dade county chanting “Fraud! Fraud!”, it was because they were in fact committing fraud. Look how many patriotic American citizens have been accused of treason by the traitorous republicans, who are themselves committing treason every day. This war of profit is a war crime, a disgrace upon our nation, and a terrible evil on all mankind. The dust of Depleated Uranium circles the globe on the wind. It poisons all it touches. How much DU is inside you and me?
March 17, March on the Pentagon
May 1, General Strike
In the mean time, call Senators and Congress people, requesting that they begin impeachment proceedings and end the occupation of Iraq.
It’s a start.
