I would like to know what is going on in Israel … perhaps all this build up and the public denials are just getting ready for Israel to make the attack–
The Neocons don’t need to bang the drums as loud about Iran as they did Iraq. It is a whole different ball game than starting the Iraq war was. There will be no military invasion, we don’t have the military to accomplish one. Not to mention that Iran is a much larger country with a much larger population than Iraq. Any military action will be limited to air strikes and will be over in less than 24 hrs. Then if they haven’t been able to establish a defensive reason by provoking the Iranians into attacking U.S. forces the Neocons will drag out trumped up evidence ala Colin Powel at the U.N. Claiming of course that they couldn’t wait and the evidence demanded immediate action that only the Commander in Chief could act on quickly enough to stave off disaster. It will be presented as a fait accomplii. There will be a lot of yelling and screaming and condemnation but in the end nothing will be done by the wimp congress we have that already refuses to impeach Bush and Cheney for already unprecedented lawbreaking. The world, allies and enemies alike will complain, but in the end do nothing either.
The trick is not to listen to Bush, you can tell he’s lying because his lips are moving, but to watch his actions. And his actions say war by a direct attack on our part or through a proxy such as Israel.

The past six years illustrate pretty clearly that if you listen carefully to what Bush states–particularly when he attempts to do so with added emphasis–simply accept the exact opposite policy will be initiated or ignored.
Lobo Gris, you are right on. The propaganda run-up that was necessary to innitiate Iraq (the most important for Bush being the Senate vote for authorization–yes, even though technically he is violating it) is unecessary (politically) at this point. He has bottomed out aside from a few hangers on that he would loose.
Additionally, the Media infrastructure that supported the propaganda run up in 2002–2003 is not as compliant–although they have a long way to go. There now exist legitimate dissenting voices (e.g.Olberman) that are willing to call lies lies. The other hurdle the administration would need to somehow overcome is a now massive credibility gap with the unread, average Joe. If they “yell to loudly” they will surely recieve greater scrutiny from many citizens typically less inclined to dig for the truth. Furthermore, this task is exasperated due to personnel issues discussed in the article. As we can see, the “ducks” are no longer willing to line up as they did for Iraq (Pace)–thankfully.

The “surge” has to appear successful before Bush has the leverage he needs to attack Iran. What’s really disturbing is the Congress. While it may think it’s calming public fears by demanding that Bush get its vote before attacking Iran, many of us remember that Bush had its vote to attack Iraq. Having Hillary Clinton vote on an attack on Iran doesn’t make me feel calm at all. Bottom line–unless the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is resolved and Israeli settlers are required to leave the lands they have stolen over these past 40 years, the neocons and their Likud allies will always be a threat to world peace. Iran, Iraq, Lebanon–none will be safe until Israel is reigned in to its legal borders.
These People are the ones who want absolute power, and could care less about democracy. Its time to point out these Publications as the corporate, greed based rags, they really are. AIE and The Weekly Standard, should also be charged, with war crimes for publishing proven lies about WMD and the Run up to War. These publications, and the garbage they spew, are not worthy of lining a hampster’s Cage.

but they cam easily wait one year. bush will still be the titular head of this administration. and cheney will still be in charge. a year is not so long. and remember how everybody was full of praise for bush and co. for not invading iraq right away.
