   Hillary? LOL! You must be joking. A lifetime member of the DLC she is as committed to the military industrial complex as Deadeye Dick Cheney.

   The advice in this article will NEVER be implemented until the U.S. has completely bankrupted itself just like the USSR. The MIC needs a constant stream of enemies and wars to justify its existence and politicos live off the capital of “being tough defenders of America”.

   No, the entire culture of America must change and it will take its downfall to secure that.

   Tom misses a crucial part of the equation. The economic genocide being imposed by the corporate masters through the Iraqi Constitution (that WE wrote for them)must be amended or abolished altogether. Iraq is being systematically plundered and abused by the Predator Class both militarily and economically.

   How to end Iraq War and Occupation: Give each Iraqi an equal share in their oil stock and leave. Make Iraq a strategic oil reserve protected by the United Nations. Do the same for ALL oil producing nations to prevent the invasion or unfair competition from other countries. Then everyone buys their oil from the market instead of engaging in bloody, costly oil wars. Meantime we can begin to save energy, institute CAFE standards, support clean energy and control global population growth humanely instead of by killing each other.

   Uh, in case you haven’t noticed Mr. Hayden the majority of Iraqi’s are Shia’s and Kurds.

   The sooner the U.S. recognizes that Bush and the Neocons have created another Shiite theocracy in at least the lower 2/3 of Iraq and acts accordingly the better off everyone will be, including the Iraqis.

   The only option left to the U.S. at this point is to withdraw and provide relocation money and assistance to the Sunni minority who will be massacred if we don’t.

   My guess is though that the U.S. will flounder around for at least the next two years looking for any solution other than the only one that is left to them. In the meantime spending more lives, both U.S. and Iraqi, and spending inordinate more amounts of treasure.

   Hayden proposes that a new ‘regime’ be chosen by the Iraqi parliament. This supposedly will install someone more representative and legitimate than Maliki. Well, who chose the Iraqi parliament? Is Hayden all teary-eyed over the purple fingers? Or is he sensible enough to realize the parliament is part of the American puppet government? They won’t choose anyone who will go against the US line. That is, assuming they ever came back from their apartments in London and New York to vote in parliament anyway.

   As one of the previous posters before me, it will take nothing short of our complete downfall, or by people willing to go to D.C. to meet these criminals face to face, toe to toe. Banging drums and parading around like clowns is over. Way over. Just like hoolums and bullies on any street or playground… you’ve gotta call their bluff — and if necessary, slap there asses into place.

   And its not likely to happen.

   Americans and westerners in general, are the most greedy, selfish, cowardly and “led” the most violent people on planet earth.

   Hayden is at worst, a simple hack and creature of the system, at best, a naive fool.

   Sorry Tom, I know your words are what you believe in, but that crap is over — except for the true believers. And that bunch is shrinking day by day. Its obvious we have a real problem here that no amount of political hacking will cure.

   Can anyone believe that Prez Bush unwittingly handed Iraq to the Iranians, the most powerful nation in the Mideast? Can anyone believe that this very result was not anticipated in many quarters? The question is:
   what is the quid pro Quo for our benevolence. This is not blundering Colonel Nicholson building a bridge for the Japanese. This is the world handed to the very people who need it the least. Don’t be fooled by the theater of the absurd. Big league treason dons many garments to mask its evil purposes.

    Robert Fisk revealed the actual Sunni Resistance criteria for a peaceful settlement. See this link:

    What would work with the Shiites and the Kurd and other groups in the Iraqi Resistance I don’t know, but there may be commonalities with the points in the Fisk article.

    As for the comments above about the vast change in US public policies to would be required for our officials to even want to reject imperial domination, they are exactly right. We need vast changes to US policies that ignore international laws and fail to prosecute our officials who violate them.

    Germany learned that lesson the hard way. I’d like to think we could learn the easy way–not by catastrophe but by some “what-if” thinking about this emerging fourth world war.

    It is in US interests and those of the world’s emerging grandchildren to create a world based not on domination and the so-called “global war on terror” but on cooperation instead. And THAT’s a big change.

    As for Tom Hayden, he seems like one of the good guys to me–a progressive through and through.

    Even with our limited information on this war, it is all to evident that our legislators erred when they granted this unlearned and arrogant administration the authority to embark on and perpetuate this disastrous misadventure.

    The weapons inspectors were there and we had contained Saddam. The resulting “civil war” and chaos had been predicted by many informed experts, and should have been obvious–but their advice was ignored. One can only imagine the extent of disaster if Saddam had unleashed some biological, chemical, or primitive nuclear weapons on our troops during the invasion.

    After nearly four years, the only rational option left now is for congress to seize the war powers from the president–and then pursue a logical course to conclude this misadventure. This would include not only recognition of the recent advisory commissions recommendations (which the administration ignored) but also curbing profiteering, promoting measures for energy conservation and global warming mitigation to reduce our dependance on their oil–and regain some worldwide trust.

    The alternative is to permit continuation of this disastrous quagmire, while risking a war with Iran and destabilization of the entire area– and further damaging our international stature.
