   its telling that the blame is being out on immigrants, both legal and illegal for disappearing American good jobs. But the real culprits are not immigrants. (In fact, study after study shows that -legal- immigrants’ businesses are engines of job creation, without which the American economy would be constricting) What is really happening is that technology is replacing far more jobs than it creates, and the low skilled jobs that are disappearing are being replaced by high skilled jobs, often in other countries. Its also obvious, to me at least, that the globalization of the economy has meant that Americans are being forced to compete with skilled people all around the world for the same shrinking pool of jobs. The American economy depends on a large pool of middle class, well paid (relatively) workers to consume products, but those middle class jobs are squarely in the targets of corporate downsizers. ‘American’ (often in name only) companies even receive tax incentives for making and keeping money (and jobs) offshore.

   Nobody is debating these issues, instead, immigrants are scapegoated.

   It is frightening to me that so many so-called Americans are afraid of babies born to undocumented women. Do they not understand the Constitution? Well, to answer my own question, very likely they haven’t got a clue. As “Fargo” said the jobs are disappearing due to globalization and the muli-national corporations sending jobs overseas. I fear we are becoming a fascist/xenophobic nation.

   As a sovereign nation, the natural born and naturlized Americans are entitled to set limits and standards on who gets legal residency and who doesn’t. It is a shame that so many illegals from other countries flaunt our laws, customs and language. I have little sympathy for those who get caught. I know from personal experience, the governments of other countries would not treat me with the respect that our government treats illegals if I were in their shoes.

   Who will pay for all of this? I work as an auditor in various grocery stores. I see the people who are not just having one but 2 or more children.
   If they do not want the programs, why do they apply?
   I am an uninsured person and it really irritates me that people are insured who do not live here and I am paying for it.
   No, it is not my responsibility. If I cannot afford the insurance I should not have to pay for others.
   Canada has a 3 year waiting period for socialized medicine.
   If I go to another country I can get a 1 year visa that a lot of times cannot be renewed. Not like anyone would want to stay in a lot of the ******** any way. I know people who needed extensions of visas so they could help the people in other countries. Yet they were turned down by their leaders.
   There are not unlimited resources available.
   What happened to people not having children unless they could afford them. No one asks you for documentation at PLanned Parenthood.
   We in the United States should not have to financially support someone’s choice.

   I am a legal immigrant and i am tired of all the talk about anti-immigrant broups etc. the issue is NOT immigrants or immigration, the issue is ILIGAL immigrants, as far as I am concerned they should have only one right, DEPORTATION. I can not conceive of any reason for people to be allowed into this country ilegally, we have laws, enforce them! Toys-R-US was perfectly within their rights to make rules as to who was elegible for the price, the mother was ilegal therefore not elegible, period! a gross miscarriage of justice to give her the price. The child of course is a US citizen but the mother should be deported ASAP. Thank you.

   One question is: Who, by current US law, is an American citizen?

   At this time it includes all babies that are born on US soil. The mother could be of any nationality and of any legal standing, in her country or ours.
   This is the law and laws can be changed.
   [The marijuana laws for example, flip-flopping back and forth so much that its hard to keep track of its current legal status...]
   As a democracy, by US law, American citizens have the right to vote in (or out) representatives who determine what is, and what is not, ‘the law’.
   [Interestingly, those US citizens who are citizens by birth, born to non-citizen mothers who were here illegally at the time of birth, can, when of voting age, have their voice heard as a citizen voter.]
   America is a country of law, and for generations the majority of American citizens have felt a profound respect for the law. We still do and its something to be proud of.
   Living abroad for most of the last 20 years, I’ve been submerged in cultures where people do not feel any respect for man-made laws. Corruption and ‘relationships’ are the only way one can get ahead. Lying and cheating is the name of the game and its accepted to such an extent that they don’t believe that a different way exists elsewhere. Parents teach their kids how to do things. Sad but true. Call it survival.
   When seeking a better life for themselves, hundreds of millions of people have no respect for American law. It’s considered reasonable to use every situation (including laws in foreign countries) to get ahead. And so we have millions of people who actively and knowingly break American immigration law (and hundreds of millions more who would like to but are too poor to get to the US) to enter the US to live and work. With porous borders and the gap between living standards, this is expected.
   Decades ago, this law - automatic citizenship to all babies born on US soil - was generous and not a ‘problem’ in terms of numbers of those benefiting from it. The times have changed.
   All over the world people are aware of this law. Middle-class foreigners fly in expressly to have their baby born on US soil - there were and perhaps still are organized tour packages, openly advertised, for this purpose in South Korea for example.
   But the US Embassies in the poorest countries are very tight about issuing visas. They do their job of controling who can enter, weighing the risk of the applicants’ overstaying their visa.
   The land border with Mexico is a very ‘reasonable’ second option as a way to enter the US and its an equal opportunity to people of any nationality. No check on criminal record there.

   It took 18 months to get my wife’s 12-year old daughter (Chinese nationality) a visa (an immigration visa was required) so she could join her mom and me in the US. No problem. I could call Immigration (an 800 number) and check the status and talk to a helpful real person at any time. I respect US law and I respect the US citizenship of those babies born in the US to mothers who are not breaking the law by their very presence. Break one law and then gleefully take advantage of another?

   Do American citizens want to keep this kind of ‘open door’ to US citizenship in place?
   It will have to be changed eventually. Wouldn’t a reasonable solution be to change the law now, to eliminate this right to citizenship, grandfathering-in everyone up to the date of passage of the new law?

   Yes they should change this law and yesterday will not be too soon.
   It is a myth the people do not come over here for programs.
   If americans need aide they are scrutinized for even owning a rustbucket auto.
   Yet people from other countries own property and such in their countries. No one checks. I think the government is too cheap and lazy.
   Just like the domestic relations will not investigate anyone who works under the table even when they are given the locations, times and other facts.
   Yet the government is very controlling if you owe them $5.00.
   They are setting a poor example -the excuse is if you do not like it leave or go live in Cuba.
   I think we can do a lot better and should be raising the bar and not lowering it.

    It is frightening that people like you are in this country.

    Illegals do not care about OUR constitution. Parasites take, take, take till have destroyed on region then move on….laws of the land are just as foreign to them in MY country as they are in their own county.

    Try socialist. If the libs would quit pandering to every 3rd world country trying to pacify them, we wouldn’t have half the problems we do.

    When was the last time anyone wrote letters to their congress people? Do you have letter drives? Citizens complaints got the idiot amnesty bill shot down, try applying that same pressure to other areas.
