“Impeach, convict, imprison. It’s harsh; it has to be.”
Bravo! This is the closest I’ve seen anyone come to expressing the appropriate degree of outrage at the crimes of King George! The authors are 1000% correct. Nothing will be done to stop the carnage until Bush and the criminals being passed off as an administration are behind bars. They might enjoy an extended stay at Guantanamo Bay.
Beyond the misguided military adventures of this demented dictator are other world changing issues that will remain un-addressed, if not actively obscured. I seem to recall hearing something about global warming or climate change or something along those lines. Then, on a more localized level, there are some minor annoyances that will remain unresolved as long as Bush and his cronies remain in power. Little things like universal health care, sub-poverty wages for blue collar America, the Office of Homeland Security, the Military Commissions Act, the gutting of our constitution, torture of innocent people, extraordinary rendition, the abysmal response to the destruction of New Orleans, the nullification of Posse Comitatus, the suspension of Habeas Corpus, illegal wiretaps, internet monitoring, tax giveaways to the richest of the rich, the degradation of our national parks system, the continuing dependence on fossil fuels and the corporate welfare for those who force it down our communal throat, the ongoing assault on the middle class…uh, sorry. I think I could fill this page with the list of things that must be resolved that will never even be addressed while Bush remains free to obstruct any and all attempts at progress.
The burning question is how do we get this pathetic excuse for a congress to take the drastic steps that are needed?
I can think of only two things that, in combination, might be enough to shake the politicians out of their stupor:a general strike and the simultaneous convergence on the White House of MILLIONS, not thousands, of pissed-off Americans demanding a new government that serves the needs of the people rather than the destroyers of the human race.
This country was born of revolution and it will take nothing less to save it from the ravages of the likes of George Bush.
Of course impeachment of the US president and vice president for their many high crimes should be on the table in Washington state, in the US House of Representatives and in every town hall in the nation. The criminals in the White House have nothing but contempt for the rule of law and the public interest. Allow their crimes to go unpunished and you’ve dealt a serious blow to the rule of law and the public interest that will be felt for decades by hundreds of millions of people. Do not look to Pelosi and other public servants for leadership. As you are well aware, public servants lead people off cliffs. Instead, lead yourselves and the good ones will serve you. This is how most people with common sense would want things.
I agree wholeheartedly with the authors that impeachment is absolutely necessary, but in discussing America’s tarnished history, they curiously elected to mention a book that covers only the latest 110 dishonorable years. Truth be really told, America was founded on the overthrow, genocide, and oppression of hundreds of native societies, which had the misfortune of living within the huge territory it would eventually claim during a five-century rampage piously dubbed “Manifest Destiny.” Most of the rest of the world is quite aware of this original sin and hypocrisy. It is only in America that it is covered up, obfuscated, and spun into a gigantic web of lies and mythologies about freedom and democracy. The reality is that Iraq is the culmination of more than 510 years of conquest, and far more than 14 governments have been affected. If we cannot at last be honest about American history, we will forever be “condemned to repeat it,” as the philosopher George Santayana once said. Nothing will ever change and no one will ever be redeemed. No matter who takes bush’s place.
I agree with all the previous posters (most especially w. yankeepacnw).
One point, though: even well-intentioned phrases of righteous indignation like “we must shake the politicians out of their stupor!” or “we must get the media to wake up!” fail to accurately convey the nature of the forces that have brought us to this shameful era of history.
All major aspects of our society have evolved to meet the needs of the dominant classes. Our schools, our standard version of US & world history, our media, entertainment, courts, 2-party system, military & police, foreign policy, & the very structure of our government — all this & more is tailored mainly to serve the needs of those at the top of the feeding chain. It’s presented to us as though these institutions are there to serve “justice” & other noble causes, but they’re really there to protect & serve the wealthy & powerful.
So the media, for instance, isn’t really there to act as the “watchdog of democracy” & to “inform us.” We don’t have the 2-party system to “give us a choice” and “represent all of us.” We have these things, like everything else, to safeguard the interests of the ruling classes.
So it’s not a question of the media or the pols “being asleep” & needing to “wake up.” Those institutions are doing exactly what institutions inevitably must do in a capitalist society: serving the interests of the powerful.
RichM hits the nail on the head. Without an independent media, society will be led by the nose to what ever whims the rich have, including war. Kill your TV.

Yes, its good to insist on impeachment, whether it works in this time in today’s media-hog-tied society or not. You never know, a breakthrough could come. And working on it keeps the possibility there for this and future executives to ponder. And well they should, for Democracy might one day come to this land.
YES - it’s the only way to stop them. They have no morals, no conscience, no principles, no scruples. They only have money and greed on their minds. I haven’t been proud of America as a country in 8 years. People can talk all they want about our forefathers and their “sins”, and try to justify this with that, but I haven’t read or witnessed anything that compares with the evil that is in our “leaders” today. It is absolutely shameful, sinful, and I hope I live to see the day that they pay for their cowardice and greed. IMPEACH and try them for war crimes and include all those who contributed to this awfulness.
The sign I carry most often in protest marches reads: THE ONLY WAY - TO WIN THE WAR AGAINST TERRORISM - IS TO IMPEACH - GEORGE BUSH (with IMPEACH in red).
The Bush administration’s militancy, its fear tactics and dismal failure have disolved all illusions that their intent is anything other than conquest and exploitation of Middle East petroleum fields. Iraq first, Iran next if they aren’t stopped. How much bloodshed, destruction, impoverishment and misery will conquering Iran require? These are costs that wealthy neo-conservative chickenhawks do not measure or pay.
Speaking of petroleum, pResident Bush posed beside a 100+ mpg PHEV Prius this week. Also the last two weeks, ABC, CBS and NBC have run “in-depth” 30-sec spots on hybrids, with obtuse warnings that hybrid mileage claims are false! Was it a coincidence that national broadcasters disciminate deceit propaganda coinciding with the Bush photo op? I think not!
Want to get the attention of the politicians in this country. Start a national recall petition. Recall every elected politician, hold new elections and vote every one out of office. Every last one, no exceptions.
And if they ignore the recall, which I think they likely will there is the 2008 election in which every house member, all of the executive and 1/3 of the Senate are up for re-election. All can be replaced except for 2/3 of the Senate. Then issue another recall petition and dare them to ignore it again. At that point the 2/3 of the Senate who were not replaced can be.
The definition of insanity is to keep repeating the same actions over and over again each time expecting different results.
Time to leave the asylum folks. Keep sending the same politicians from the same two (do not represent the people parties)and you will keep getting the same results, not the different ones you keep hoping for. We the people have the power to change things, we only have to rise up and use it. Vote for real change!!
Remember, all that has happen for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
Latest examples of the Government thwarting the will of the people:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is writing the new immigration legislation for the Democrats.
The “Free Trade” agreement with Peru contains a provision for Dubai to reaquire our ports.
pRESIDENT Bush has resubmitted a budget request to require our Veterans to pay more than double the copay for their prescription medicines, copays which he has already quadrupled since he entered office. All this while insisting that the richest in the country keep their tax breaks. Let’s you know where he actually stands when he claims to support the troops.
1/3 of the citizens since the invasion of the country of Iraq live in abject poverty. Some of whom are now digging through the garbage dumps to find food to eat. Way to bring peace prosperity and democracy to a country that never asked for it.
Lobo Gris
These are some great Posts. Impeachment, and I feel we need to go further. New Rules.
1. If an elected politician is tried and convicted of a felony, he should loose all pensions, and the ability to use any presidential Pardons. The presidential pardons must go, as should any and all profits, aquired from War Profiteering. Its necessary to get some new perspectives from the Sitting senators, and in The House it’s time to cill out. God Bless,
Michael
Amen to that, Michael! And everyone before you. What really burns me is that Pres. Clinton was impeached for having sex in the oval office and trying to deny it, while Bush has flat out lied about every day he’s spent in office while lining his pockets and the pockets of his coherts in the oil companies and giving contracts for war supplies to Hardiman and all those sleazy politicians that are supposed to be listening to the people who elected them. Instead this country is being run through fear and intimidation based on the “Christian Right”. Bible thumping bigots have been damaging our image since the Civil Rights movement and continuing through to the Abu-Grav atrocoties. IMPEACH BUSH and his whole cabinet !
I’m tired of the incompetence and greed.
All of you folks are making some really good points, but I’d like to stay on point here. Has anybody got some concrete ideas about how we as individuals, in our individual states, can take action to make impeachment happen? I’m also not sure what the legal mechanism is for the States to force impeachment proceedings. Has anybody got any ideas on this? And how long would the impeachment process take? Do we have the time before this Administration invades Iran? Did you know that the U.S. is already in negotiations with Isreal to allow them to use Iraq airspace to invade Iran? I believe time is of the essence here. What can we do NOW?
Rebel Farmer, this site might provide some answers for you or, perhaps, lead you somewhere that can.

I agree with all those above who think impreachment is called for. If all Senators and Representatives really observed thier oath to be faithful to the Constitution, impeachment would be a slam dunk. However, at present it can’t happen. Conviction in the Senate will require Republican votes. I have two possible alternatives. One is to impeach a selected cabinet officer, perhaps our sainted attorney general. Another is to investigate and declare President Bush mentally disabled from holding his office any longer. That might have a better chance of working, or at least make W sit up and take notice. Does anyone else think those suggestions make any sense> Solon
BLAME 2/25/07
Never before have Americans experienced such dangerous manipulation of essential scientific and intelligence data, as used by this administration to promote this misguided war and derail vital environmental reforms, conservation, family planning– and the list goes on. The gravity of these betrayals eclipses the Monica Lewinski scandal which led to an impeachment, and pose greater dangers than Watergate which terminated a presidency.
Blame for these dreadful consequences falls mainly on the five supreme court justices who placed politics ahead of the law and put him in office against the voters choice; our legislators for allowing such reckless and dangerous behavior from this unlearned president guided by his financial and radical supporters; and especially the apathetic populace for tolerating this unprecedented outrage.
Right On! We must impeach the “Trinity Of Evil” Baby Bush, F-You Cheney and Alberto “Tex” Gonzalez! Start first with Gonzalez, then Cheney and save Bush for last, in that order! Our country will not survive another two years of this grossly incompetent, corrupt and greedy Chicken-Hawk administration! We must do it now! Demand that the gut-less Democrats begin impeachment procedures now! Lwayno
It is wonderful to see all of the sentiment expressed by so many caring Americans. However, at the end of the day it all amounts to rhetoric. You will go to your cushy jobs, drive your luxury vehicles, drink your favorite drink and think, I’ve done my part”.
Quite frankly, our country has been hijacked by an evil regime. We must have a complete stoppage of business as usual in America. We must shut down all of our normal activities across the country and DEMAND removal of Bush, Chaney, Rice,Rove, and all other persons engaged in this this this deception.
America is a Republic of the People, not of a few to whom we have allowed the wealth of the resources of this great Nation.
President Clinton was impeached for a personal affair that he did not admit to while under oath. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove, Rumsfeld, and their constituents are too “Under Oath” in the position they swore to uphold in honor and integrity.
This group has been tried by the national court of the People and found guilty of perjury, treason, murder, theft, arrogance, fraud, and other crimes.
Now when will we send the representatives of the people to remove them from Office and place them in prison and confiscate all of their wrongful gains?
If you wish to become part of a growing movement to impeach. Go to:
http://WWW.TOIMPEACHBUSH.COM and sign petion or join them in Washington on the 4th anniversary of the Iraq war March 19, 2007 for a peaceful protest to impeach.
Buy the lawn signs and spread the word to everyone you see each day.
They should be handed over to the Iraqi people for true justice to ever prevail.
