   Boy, what a major disappointment the Dems are turning out to be. They’re just as gutless now that they’re in power as they were when they were out of power.

   Excellent article - however, we need to stop believing that we can “out-influence” the forces that own/control the government. [Of course, there is that small edge within which we petition and engage our representatives.] To stop the war; to abolish inequality; to end all the -isms that demean and separate us, as always, we must take direct, non-violent action against the [how else can it be said?] “forces of abject evil” that presently predominate.

   The war from its inception has been and is about OIL! The “client-government” Amerika has established in Iraq will soon adopt a law giving control of Iraq’s oil reserves to the international oil oligarch.

   With the exception of Kucinich, Barbara Waters, and a handful of others, ain’t a soul in DC gonna move on behalf of “We the People.” So we gotta move ourselves - move against all the interests of the oil owners - move against those interests in every imaginable way.

   This is almost as bad as when Molly started losing her sense of humor during the election of 2004. This is all so disheartening. Ever since Molly died I have taken up her call to end this war. I’ve been beating my pots and pans every day. I’ve written an E-mail to my representatives, both state and fedseral, EVERY DAY hoping that I would be heard. Signed petitions, signed on to action campaigns, listened to you folks out here and joined the conversation. Most of my representatives that write me back are sympathetic, but they won’t get off the fence and actually take action that will make a difference. I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I am beginning to believe that my congressional representatives are just as frustrated and powerless as I am. They seem to be saying that no matter what they do they would just be spittting in the wind. Many of them are willing to take a firm stand and don’t care about the political fallout because they know their constituants are behind them. Given the politics involved, even if they want to act, they know that nothing will come of it.

   I’m not sure where to go from here. My pots and pans are getting harder to find each day. Just this week I decided that impeachment was probably the only recourse. I hit a brick wall on that one too. I know that I have to keep going, if only for Molly’s memory, but it’s getting harder with each passing day. Maybe the time has come for another Boston Tea Party. I wonder where we could pull that off in Oregon….

   Oregon exported over 7 million to Iraq in computer/electronics alone in 2005; and its the #1 growth export industry in the state. (Source: http://www.statemaster.com/red/state/OR-oregon/tra-trade&b_define=1&all=1) That is not the #1 import in the state but if you can find out more about the who/what and how much of it all; then you can call out the companies involved for war profiteering. Maybe even organize protests and boycotts of the products temporarily until your state and federal “representatives” (to use the term loosly) start doing their jobs. If you want to motivate those that worship the Golden Calf of Unearned Income, otherwise known as the Ownership Society, you have to follow the money.

   Sounds to me like you are advocating the withholding of personal income taxes. What an idea. Guess what? I have done just that. The IRS is breathing down my neck, but I feel that I have taken a step beyond yellow rebbons and letters to congresspeople. I have done that, as well, with open letters to commondreams, etc. If enough people show enough courage, the pols will get the message. And, of course, no campaign contributions to anyone in “either” party. Let the advertisers on TV and other media know you are not buying their products as long as only paid political announcements are allowed to run. Make the newspeople report the news, even if it pisses off their cash flow. It seems only the people in the war zone are expected to sacrifice. When Halliburton starts charging only cost of materials and pays only minimum wage to its workers, and executives, then I might believe they are doing their patriotic duty.

   Stop paying taxes.

   Right, we have to talk less and do more. More than dream, we have to ACT. Yes, call our rep and senators and demand that they put their actions where their mouths are (or should be — if we are in a red state our talk/actions mean more but hey, I have Hillary and we peace and justice folk in NY know she’s no liberal but we have to remind her and others like her to BE what the rightist mainstream media claim her/them to be).

   Demand troops home NOW and demand NO WAR ON IRAN. Its the hundred monkey principal. If enough of us call congress, they will join the parade.    Take some chalk and write the word “Impeach” around town — just like the old “Kilroy was here”. (Consider impeaching Cheney first because Congress has to approve Bush’s choice of a replacement so he has to appoint someone decent or he has to have Nancy Pelosi breathing down his neck. And the mere ACT of impeaching is cleansing — read/listen to John Nichols.)

   Don’t forget, little actions count, too. Talk, write — yes, but turn talk to action — and infiltrate your political party’s local group.

    Impeachment is the only credible long-term solution to the dry rot of this administration, and by extension America’s lost standing around the world. Everything else is verbose “hogwash” to paraphrase Darth Cheney.

    Until we hold Bush, Cheney and Co. acoountable for their high crimes during the past 6 years, most of which have been amply documented and exposed, we will never regain our own self-respect as a nation of laws, committed to holding our own leaders to the rule of law and the Constitution. To the extent the Democrats in Congress cleave to the “center” in order to reject the “extremism” of impeachment, they are nothing more than cynical enablers of the Bush nightmare, and themselves every bit as responsible for the continuing carnage in the middle east, despite their empty “non-binding” protestations.

    Ms. Pelosi should stop being so concerned about how her million-dollar pearly whites and her Armani couture look on camera, and focus more on standing up for the end-this-war constituency that elected her Speaker.Id she doesn’t, she and Hoyer and Murtha may find they’re back in the minority…for good.

    The talking part is not over until all have had a chance to listen and there are plenty out there that aren’t paying attention yet. I admire Mr. Connors for his clarity of thought and sense of purpose. Of course I am nothing but a small time contractor myself.

    Impeaching Bush will be worth nothing more than the impeachment of Nixon was. I agree with the others here that the only way to stop this is to cut off their $$. Which they conveniently extract from us every day by the millions in the form of taxes. But we are finding ourselves taxed without proper representation.

    So perhaps a National Tea Party is in order? Come April 16 if there are no letters in their box at the IRS and none show up thereafter maybe they will get the idea that we are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore?

    You’re right about most things you say, Mr. Cooper, but for you and others, let’s remember D.C. is a political clusterfuck. That means that politics rules and the reality (and we, too, must face reality) is that the Senate is controlled by one man. Namely, CT Senator Joe Liebermann. He supports the war, loves The Shrub, and will, despite tdhe odds, change sides in a heartbeat. Should he jump to Repuglican, all Senate Chairmanships change and what little power the Dems now possess will be down the chute. So, in my view, rather than challenge and bring on a fight they could well lose, the Dems are doing what little they can, awaiting the millenium in 2008 when they might, should we all hang together, gain a real ascendency in the Senate, much as they have now in the House, and Joe Libermann can “go pound sand.” Think about it, folks, all you have to do is think about it.

    What I got out of this wonderful article is that we all need to “live our relgions”. Rather than yak-yak-yak, go seek the truth yourself, make up your own mind, and then do something, even a small gesture of action, to help make your beliefs become realized. Don’t line up with one team or another - be your own team. Not one person on this planet has the same beliefs about everything!

    I think it would be great to have a president from one party and a VP from another. Or maybe we need to figure out how to get rid of this party system. It seems that we now do not live in a democracy, but rather a “corpocracy” of greed. You either live for money (greed) or you live for the flow of sacred life on this planet. You are either part of the solution, or you are the problem.

    PS It amazes me how the BBC, a government owned station, shows more truth about the world, than our US privately owned TV stations. Of course, “privately owned” I think means owned by maybe 3 or 4 rich white men who buy their own public officials. If Americans, being the generous people that we are, really saw what was happening around the world, we would start sending our money to help others out and wouldn’t be buying $60,000 gas guzzlers! Thank God for Music in helping to get the truth spread!

    I am a steadfast and fervent believer on the issue of impeachment of the totality of this administration.

    However, Pelosi will never succumb to her vow of “off the table” except under EXTREME pressure. If she allows the impeachment of these two criminals, she becomes president and Hillary is the DLC’s girl. Pelosi would have to make herself look incompetent, so Hillary would stand a chance of getting elected come 08. But by then it would be to late for the Dems. Soooo, no impeachment.
