All the big boys want from the electorate is nose to the grindstone blowtorch to the ass complacency and of course unbridled consumerism - and it is given to them.
As I keep saying, it’s time to leave the asylum folks, you know, the crazy house where you keep doing the same thing over and over again (pulling the lever for a Democrat or a Republican) while each time expecting different results.
Time to throw all the hogs out (that’s hogs with a D or and R) that are eating so much at the trough that they are eating us out of house and home.
What is needed is a co-ordinated effort to get either a third party started or to get a bunch of members elected from one of the existing third parties, and in the process getting rid of as many Republicrats and Democans as possible.
How about a third party that is dedicated to not trying to make over other countries in our image by force. A party that puts the interest of the American people first in every piece of legislation that is passed. That it would seem to me to at least be a good start.

Both parties have been around for a while, both have elected office holders in many local municipalities and/or counties, and both are responsive to the grass roots. If you live in a red state vote libertarian, if you live in a blue state vote green and let the two headed monolith try to figure out where their support is going.
If we start local we can pull up the roots of the weeds that are the Republican and Democratic party and eliminate them the ways the Whigs and Federalists were withered into insignificance.
Dennis Kucinich has a lot of positions I admire. And personally there’s nothing I would like better than having a fellow vegan as President if he would take his values to work with him. But remember that “Old Tugboat” (so called because of his strategy of dragging progressives back into the Democratic fold–presumably to be ignored, marginalized and ridiculed by the rest of the party just as he is) doesn’t stand a chance of winning the Democratic nomination. But we can be sure that just like last time, he will openly and unequivocally support WHOEVER the Democrats nominate, even if that person is his polar opposite philosophically–which shows that he cares more about party loyalty than standing up for his principles. If he would decide to quit the donkey party and join the Green Party–whose platform he has almost entirely adopted anyway–he would be appreciated and respected, and he would almost certainly win the party’s nomination. He might even get into the debates. But first he would have to accept our right to exist and to participate in the political system–which he has not and probably will never do. As I said, Dennis Kucinich has a lot of positions I admire, but he is a “stealth” candidate designed to tell progressives what they want to hear so that they will continue to believe the lie that there is a place for them among the Democrats. Of course that place will be standing with Old Tugboat on the sidelines, cheering on the pro-war, corporate anti-Kucinich candidate that his party will nominate in the end. Once again, he will be asking progressives to hold their noses and vote for someone who is against everything he stands for, a big-money Democrat whose main qualification will be that he or she is “better than the Republican” (barely). Democrats, please vote for him in the primary, but don’t forget that the day after that election, he’ll still be a member of the War Party. And so will you.
The Lieber-Clinton, Secular(Neo)Conservative DLC was founded in the 80’s to sabotage the left, did the heavy lifting (laid the groundwork for Bush) and cost us the balance needed for a viable democratic process in the bargain.

I am not against voting for either of the two major third parties. The point I am trying to make is that whatever is done needs to be a co-ordinated effort by voters to have maximum impact. Unfortunately most third party votes in national elections look more like widely scattered bird shot with little effect rather than a closely targeted rifle shot that takes aim at the heart of the problem.

I keep waiting a “King” who will be a strong voice for the poor. And I have been waiting for a long time for a Chavez. And do we really need another Clinton who got us into Nafta? What is most upsetting is the prospect of Hillary Clinton as president, especially as the first woman to hold that position. She is an opportunist and a politician, but completely void of the character needed to restore America. She advocated the bombing of Kosovo, which enabled her husband, then president, to grant healthy no-bid contracts to Halliburton. Whitewater has been forgotten.
George W. Bush has more than his share of sycophantic lapdogs, but there is a ‘Clintonista’ faction that deserves equal attention, and for the same reasons.
It is not because of a sexual dalliance that Clinton deserves to be bashed, rather, his blatant abuse of his position as president and his violation of trust as husband exposed a character severely flawed.
In 1999, Clinton committed one of the greatest crimes against humanity when he blocked all efforts within the UN Security Council to lift sanctions against Iraq. Two weeks before Clinton’s decision, UNICEF presented it’s study proving the results of economic embargo and two air strikes had produced a “humanitarian emergency”. The study cited infant and children under five mortality rates had doubled since 1989. The children were either dying or stunted by malnutrition. UNICEF attributed the deaths of an estimated 500,000 children to the sanctions.
Clearly the GOP wouldn’t have impeached Clinton on such legitimate grounds. The Iraq plan has been years in the making, and, another Clinton term for America would be the lesser of two evils. Clinton’s failed policy has largely silenced the newly elected Democratic majority. Even as Bush, Cheney, and Rice beg them for impeachment, they continue to “investigate” the obvious.
George W. Bush has been a disastrous president, with Clinton equaling that distinction. America can largely thank Clinton for helping Bush to be awarded the presidency in 2000. America, now a threadbare democracy, has suffered decades of failed leadership. Hillary would mean more of the same.
Still, we the people, in anticipation of which way the wind might blow in 2008, have but few choices. Either there will be another coup as the past two elections wrought, or we will have brought about enough significant change to begin realizing our collective goals.
Nancy Pelosi tells us Bush lacks the power to attack Iran, while W.Patrick Lang and Seymour Hersh contradict her. We’ve been duped by the Democrats, perhaps one too many times.
Reagan’s not being impeached for the Iran contra scandal set a deadly precedent which, if left unchecked, spells the death of our democracy.
We would hope that PACs like MoveOn would make impeachment a priority. With the largest membership of any PAC, they have the ability to flip the issue, but refrain because, they say, their polls showed other issues as more important. Their polls never once produced the issue of impeachment. Yet recent national polls show 58% of Americans in favor of impeachment. So what’s wrong with MoveOn? There is no contender for the 2008 race that is fully endorsable, which makes for a sad state of affairs. I still maintain Molly Ivins had the right idea — Bill Moyers 2008.
Call me an idealist, but if the media would give the time and fervor to the issues and the candidates that it dedicated to the unsavory details of Nicole Smith’s death and hereafter, even the little guys could have a chance to appeal directly to the American public. At least they might pay a bit of attention if these earnest public servants were wedged in between acts as commercials on “American Idol”. The FCC as a governmental agency should act to keep the news channels on track as real news carriers not television replacements for supermarket tabloids. PBS and C-SPAN can only do so much.
