Now stop that. You are trying to use logic and the “Lord of the Flies guys” are only about fear. Iran is not actually doing anything illegal…but we are and so is Israel. I guess what they think they know Iran is going to do is more likely to be what they plan to do. Sigh…

AIPAC is against the Iranians developing nuclear power which is perfectly legal under the NPT. Israel has over 150 nukes ppoised to strike Iran and has not agreed to the NPT. If anyone is an outlaw nation beside the US, it is Israel. Who is free to ignore all UN declarations??? US and Israel. We hold everybody else’s feet to the fire or we destroy them if they ignore UN resolutions. This is insanity.
I agree with this article. A preemptive strike against iran would be completely counterproductive. However, i find the comments above underplaying the threat and likelyhood of an iranian nuclear weapon to be disingenous.
I find the prospect of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon scary, very scary. I also think they are actively attempting to get one. I mean come on, they’d be fools not to. (compare and contract North Korea and Iraq, who wouldnt want a nuke when you’re on the US’s axis of evil)
That said, there’s still a strong case against preemptive attack…as the article outlined, it would unite Iranian people against the US, unite them in resolve of creating a nuke, and basically ensure a retaliatory strike against the US once they did get the weapon. also, it’d turn numerous shiite militias in iraq against our troops, and would drive oil prices through the roof.
unfortunately, prospects of any diplomatic resolution to this is about nil with bush in office. depressing
Would Iran be concerned with nukes if they didn’t have their oil to protect from multinational oil companies looking for plunder and from the US/Israeli threat? They’re not blind. Look how BushCo made nice with N.Korea as soon as they got the bomb. Israel doesn’t have to worry about Iran obtaining nukes. As long as it posesses nukes itself, it’s Mutually Assured Destruction all over again. Unfortunately, MAD is what kept all out war from breaking out during the Cold War and it may be the only thing that keeps imperialists at bay.
Why would Iran unfold their warheads? For the same reason that they send in young boys and girls with suicide bombs. They would rather take the whole world down than give in to U.S. power and control.
