   Every time I read something like this I wonder if it is possible for our White political leaders to also show a bit of courage.

   I live in NE Florida - home of the Bushies biggest supporters. My representative is Clifford Stearns who is the biggest sheeple of them all. I envy your constituents, Maxine. Keep up the good fight - for us all.

   Just have to add I saw you, Maxine on CNN tonight - AWESOME!! I reiterate - I wish you were my representative or someone who has your insight and intelligence, common sense and logic. My representative, and I state his name again, is Clifford Stearns and he just keeps getting re-elected! I can’t afford to move to CA, but can afford to move back to the NE where I came from and put up with the cold weather. That’s looking pretty good to me at this point.

   PS - to opeluboy, I did not know what “color” Maxine was until tonight when I saw her on TV - even though your post indicated she was not a caucasion man. I am finished now.

   I joined the Green Party last year (after 30 years of being a Democrat) after calling and e-mailing my representative Nancy Pelosi year after year asking her to stop funding “blank check” supplementals for the continued Occupation of Iraq and hearing her, in the media, retort “We have to Support Our Troops,” and then voting YES. I angered her staffers as I criticized her unconditional support for israel’s War crimes in Lebanon last year-but that is the mainstream Democrat position (look up Obama or Hillary speeches to AIPAC and you’ll hear more “nothing is off the table” talk regarding Iran.) It is only a few brave Democrats in the Progressive Caucus/Out of Iraq caucus that represents the majority view reflected in last November’s election. 56-60% of Americans want a timetable for withdrawal from iraq. Over 60% of Iraqis support attacks on occupying U.S. troops in Iraq. Now I’m hearing mainstream Democrats discuss pulling out by the end of 2008! God bless Maxine Waters, Lynn Woolsey, Jim McDermott, Barbara Lee, Jim McGovern, Dennis Kucinich and Russ Feingold who have been a few brave Americans trying to get our brave troops home.

   Represenative Waters,

   It is my sincerest hope that besides troop withdrawals from Iraq that the Democrats in Congress will not ignore the other 800lb Gorilla in the room which is the Impeachment of George Bush and possibly Dick Cheney.

   Ample evidence is available to support such an action and wouldn’t even require any additional investigation:

   Bush has publicly stated that he violated the 1978 FISA act which is a direct violation of law and because it was enacted to protect Fourth amendment rights, violation of it makes it a violation of the Fourth amendment to the Constitution also.

   Bush in authorizing the detaining of Jose Padilla, an American citizen, and detaining him for over three years without charges, access to legal counsel, or the courts, has violated his 5th and 6th amendment rights.

   In violating the above 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments Bush has violated his oath of office in which he swore to protect the Constitution.

   And lastly, in using signing statements to thwart the will of Congress Bush has violated the separation of powers as delineated in the Constitution. According to the Constituion a President may sign a bill into law or veto it. There is no provision for him or her to give themselves additional powers to ignore only portions of a law and in the process attempt to short circuit the process as established by the founding fathers of this country.

   Indeed, haven’t the people of Iraq waited long enough for the US to leave their country. Please try to make certain that the US military bases close as well. A complete withdrawal is necessary.

   I am wrong about Padilla. His case is more complicated than I originally thought due to some fancy footwork by the Government. I still believe his treatment has been a travesty and that there may still be grounds to prove that his 5th and 6th amendment rights have been violated, however it will be harder to prove.

   None the less, that does not invalidate the other legitimate reasons for beginning impeachment procedings against Bush.

    Get out NOW! And we don’t care how you do it. There is no “honorable” solution to a deceitful venture. Continuing this illegal invasion is aiding and abetting a crime. Period. Saying we need to stay until there is some sort of stabilization is like keeping a bad marriage together for the sake of the children. It doesn’t work.

    The argument that chaos would ensue if we pulled out is equally insane. We ARE the chaos. The people in that region have been on that land thousands of years before America was formed. For us to think that we’re going to transform them is simply hubris to a degree that is off the charts.

    The people have spoken. No one is listening.

    Every time an article promotes Hillary, Obama their is a cry of what about Kucinich, yet no one ever mentions these brave women: Waters, Woolsey & Lee. Do you remeber that Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against the authorization for war. This speech by Maxine waters was no suprise to me. Maybe it’s because I’m from California and she represents the district I was born in. (I now unfortunalty live in a district represented by Adam Schiff) If you saw the movie “Farenheight 911″ you may remember that the Congressional Black Caucaus were the only Democrates fighting for Al Gore, not Kucinich. I like Kucinich but he is not the only Democrat trying to get us out of war. Have you ever heard of Robert Byrd from West Virginia?

    I must address the point I made up there at the top. This was not a racial comment, but an observation that the Black Caucus members most of the time seem to be the only Dems (with a few notable exceptions) with guts.

    I must also point out that Lynn Woolsey Is a Caucasian woman, so I feel a bit more encouraged in that there are white reps willing to put their careers on the line. Maybe growing up poor, disenfranchised and dealing with bigotry adds a few muscles.

    And here is a way out that changes their hate into love: Give each Iraqi citizen an equal share of their oil stock and leave.
