Rothchild is usually better! AIPAC is not just in bed with the Bush administration. They have permiated our entire government for years. Almost all of our politicians are on their payroll. Without campaign finance reform, AIPAC will get their way in all future administrations. Until Isreal is held to account for the apartheid they have fostered in Palestine, nothing is going to change. The U.S. will continue to just be the miltary arm of the war hawks objectives. The fact is that most Isrealis agree with that assessment. They want to live in peace. The U.S. is not helping them reach their objective.
Rebel Farmer is for the most part right, although I do cheer Rothschild for at least writing this article, one that is not going to win him any new friends in media.
Where I disagree with Rebel is in his promotion of the myth that most Israelis are captive of their government’s hardline policies and just want “peace.” I put peace in quotes because to some of them, this might actually mean peace through total annihilation of the Palestinians, whose land they are sitting on.
We must remember that a universally condemned war criminal, Ariel Sharon, was elected in a landslide. Israelis knew what Sharon’s methods would be and that he had done his best to thwart every single peace innitiative. Also consider that most Israelis supported the brutal invasion of Lebanon, support The Wall, and allow people like Avigdor Lieberman (an avowed racist who preaches ethnic cleansing and genocide) into the Knesset. This would be like having an openly white supremacist, neo-nazi in the Senate here.
I also believe it is a myth that a majority of American Jews are anti-occupation, want to return Israel to it’s legal borders, etc. Though we hear this noise constantly, facts simply do not bear it out.
OK! So I didn’t get that completely right, but….
I didn’t say all Isrealis. I do know that there is a contingent that would be willing to pull back to the borders of 1967 if it would bring lasting peace. But your right, the guys with all the bombs and power have no intention of giving back the land they have stolen from the Palestinians.
The only thing that I have a problem with is lumping all Israelis in the same pot. Right now, I’d have a problem with being put in the pot of this evil administration just because I am an American.
