   The deprivation of care for kany of our injured and deserving veterans, who will now be scarred for the rest of their lives from this ill conceived and misguided war, is not only a violaton of trust but contemptous. As the world’s richest nation, we have always had the means to avoid and alleviate these dreadful injustices. The unprecidented profiteering that has accompanied their sacrifices only adds to the outrage.

   Responsible parties should be tried for criminal neglect–this includes those at the top.

   Twenty years from now, when people again start complaining about the new generation of homeless (and this time they will have missing arms and legs), just remember how well our country takes care of the military.

   First, they send them off to a war based on lies. Then they will take take of them minimally for the next few years, refusing to address any psychological issues, but thanking them profusely for their patriotism (good thing they didn’t have to go over and fight). Add drugs and alcohol into the mix, broken families, failed dreams, and the result will be a new generation of homeless living on the streets that people can disregard and put down (especially republicans).

   I thank god everyday that we have moral presidents, generals, and corporations who take care of us folks. It doesn’t get any better than this.

   At the same time, the number of troops for his “surge” are increasing by 21,000+. WTF is this president thinking?

What American in her/his right mind would enlist even to defend America against an authentic invader . What’s the difference between a homeless veteran dying on the street with DU poisoning or dying on the street from an invader’s bullet ?

   To me “Support our Troops” is a large pile of road apples. Lotsa yellow ribbons and plenty of broken families. I was drafted in 1966 and went from having a wife and decent job to making $90 per month. (yeh, 90 bucks) Because I was married, they took half of that and sent my wife $90 to try to live. She ended up working in a bar and hooking because no one would hire an Army wife. Thank you Uncle Sam. If I ever catch ya in a dark alley that’s all for you.

   Hey! Not to worry. They’re taking care of the pesky wounded soldiers thing as we speak.

   Many of they have been re-evaluated as fit for duty even though they’re not and being redeployed to fill the numbers for the surge.

   See? No more wounded soldier. Problem solved!

    Great idea! Can we serve the same breakfast to everyone that has had anything to do with causing our troops such torture? Who diverted funds for sexy, new weapons instead of troop benefits and care? What about the funding to build new bases and embassies that have a larger footprint than the Vatican? What about cutting funding for the VA?

    Eventually our entire military will be privatized, including care for those who served. That’s another reason why veteran care today is so poor. American veterans are dinosaurs.

    The thing that should scare everyone is that when it becomes privatized it will be beholden only to it’s corpora…..er…political masters. Not the people, the country, and the constitution our current military is sworn to defend.

    I just wonder sometimes why young men and women still continue to buy the lie, after their is so much evidence to support the idea that they are nothing more then cannon fodder to these men.
    We have to teach our young men and women what we know about the lie’s that have been told in the name and profit.

    I think you have to look at the mental state of the country after 9/11. It was the most devastating blow to the country since the attack on Pearl Harbor.

    I myself supported going into Afghanistan, hunting down Bin Laden and either killing him or bringing him to justice here in the U.S. In fact I still think it would have been good for the country to have done that. But I also believe that it should have stopped there.

    But no, we had him cornered in the Tora bora mountains and Bush let him get away because he had bigger fish to fry in Iraq.

    There was all the talk of mushroom clouds, or mabe it was clouds of mushrooms, magic mushrooms, that they must have been eating in the White House. There was the impressive display at the U.N. complete with charts and pictures telling us all about the mobile germ warfare labs, the hundreds of liters of bio toxins, the cruise missles that could reach the U.S., the attempted purchase of yellow cake uraniun, and of course the infamous link to Al Qaida.

    Given the mood created by the lies, lies that 70% of the country bought into, I’m not surprised at all at the actions of our young people. They thought they were doing their patriotic duty to defend the country. They aren’t buying into it anymore however, along with the 70% that originally did.

    The military has dropped recruiting requirements to the point that large numbers require wavers to be able to serve. They are redeploying the wounded and disabled in a measure so desperate that it should only be considered if we were under attack from a foreign invader and it was the only chance to save the country. They have extended tours and begun them early in Iraq. They have engaged in stop loss programs where they refuse to release people whose contract is up. And not well known, they have taken members besides those from the Army and Marines, given them short training courses and deployed them to Iraq.

    They are having serious recruiting problems because our young people are no longer buying into the BS. They just won’t own up to it, probably for fear that recruiting would get even more difficult.

    As the military itself is being privatized so are the Veteran services. This is one way to get the disgruntled vets off the back of the government. The history of the veteran goes back to the founding of this country. It’s not a tradition of the military. It’s the policy of the government.

    Good ideas and analysis. Unfortunately we are tilting at windmills until we the people have access to our enormous collective power, now diffused. Concentrated wealth and power owns the duopoly. Their mantra is privatize, centralize, control and profit. Veterans are just another disposable item.
