   So Karl Rove is trying to dismissal the investigations in the purge as “political.” This is too much, coming from someone who has practically invented a strategy that politicizes everything in order to create division. These people really need to be sent to Gitmo on the next leaky boat.

   “Gonzales took responsibility for mistakes that were made but insisted that he would not resign. He told a news conference Tuesday that the firings were the “right decision.”

   That isn’t taking responsibility. That is making a statement with the hope that those hearing and reading it will buy it, thereby avoiding taking actual responsibility which would involve his resignation.

   Why was Gonzales not asked to resign after he “advised Bush that foreign detainees were not entitled to protections under the Geneva Conventions”? Coupled with the legal papers to the same effect issued by Gonzales, this position disgraced and discredited the office of US Attorney General well before the firings came to light. It is troubling that the Democrats looked the other way in the first instances, but become alarmed about the firings - is this because the firings relate to Republican efforts to attack Democrats? Obviously party politics rank higher than sanctions of torture and illegal detentions that continue to cause suffering around the world. A terribly disturbing and sad state of affairs.

   Excellent point. I also wonder why it is that the Democrats, specifically Pelosi, were so eager to take impeachment off the table, even before she became speaker and before the beginning of any investigations.
