Thanks, Katrina, for correctly framing the current Global War On Terror (GWOT). The Republicans use it to try to remain in power while the Democrats seem too timid to criticize it for fear of being perceived as “soft”. It’s unfortunate the Democrats don’t have enough confidence in the ability of the American people to understand the difference between the Republican propaganda and the truth. Only by stripping the false facade from the GWOT, as you do so well, will we have any chance of actually minimizing the attraction of terrorism for some people. Hopefully, we can do this before we bankrupt ourselves or find ourselves with precious few civil liberties. Thanks again for articulating so well such important concepts.
The War on Terror is as much a political hoax as the War on Drugs. Both are (designed to be) failures. Both tell us that none of our politicians are willing to address, or more likely incapable of addressing, the issues in a rational manner. None have the necessary compassion. None are interested in a hopefully successful meeting with those sad people so impassioned in their beliefs and so frustrated by their inability to be heard that they are willing to blow themselves up for their convictions rather than to continue their lives as they are.
This is the first cogent assessment of the current situation I have seen. What concerned people wonder is, what can each of us do to have a voice and make a difference? I think I speak for many when I say we feel helpless as we watch our country deteriorate.
Money talks. A general strike is the only way to get the attention of the money-bags who run this racket. But Americans are cowards and unlikely to make waves - until they find that their boat has sunk. Nobody wants to risk their jobs, their assets, or anything else - after all, it’s just somebody else’s kids and some other people who are dying - not ordinary (cowardly) citizens. But that’s how all our rights were won in the past - people die when the State turns their dogs loose on them. But they win their freedom if they perservere. Freedom isn’t free - never was, and never will be. Americans don’t want freedom - they just want to hide their heads in the sand.
