   Never happen; expecting little things like ethical consistency from these people is like expecting altruistic behaviour from the war machine industry.

   There is a story a read about General McArthur in Japan during the U.S. occupation. An aide came to him and complained that American soldiers were having sex with Japanese woman and that the General must issue an order forbidding this. McArthur laughed and the aide and told him calmly that he had a firm policy of never issuing orders that could not be followed.

   An Army without whores, wouldn’t that be something? Personally, if I was being shot at, I wouldn’t care about the person’s sexual preference next to me. I’d only care if he could shoot really well.

   Like decrepittex so wisely said before , your buddyès sharpshooting prowess trumps his or her sexual orientation . prowess or not.

   It may only be a myth but it is logical : Roman Army commanders recruited homosexual men because they were just as fierce soldiers as heterosexual soldiers with the added advantage of fighting with even more fierce loyalty with their lover at their side.

   Among othe factors , Þax Romana ruled for over five hundred years and started to fall apart with the increased dependence on mercenaries.

   Certainly influenced by other factors but will persecution and persecution-denial of female recruits , increasing reliance on contractors like Blackwater and the dumbing-down of intellectual-and-moral-recruitment standards allow Pax America to rule the world for even one hundred years .

   AS in civilian life, if all the people who have an alternative lifestyle to the “norm” were to leave their posts, this society would be in a world of hurt. How may of the linguists with Arabic language skills in the military were gay and lesbian? When they were let go in the “don’t ask, don’t tell” purge a while back, the ability to track so-called terrorists by the U.S. Intelligence agencies was seriously diminished. I would be willing to wager that the VA is staffed quite extensively with gay and lesbian professionals and caregivers. What would happen to an already desimated organization, run by homophobic commanders with no interest in really serving the profound needs of its constituents, if these were to be “outed” and dismissed for no other reason than how they choose to love? If the UCMJ regulations with regard to adultery and fraternization with subordinates were to be enforced, the military prisons and courtrooms would be overflowing, and the wheels of military discipline would fall off. Hey, not a bad idea. Out all the adulterers and fornicators among the military and civilian leadership of this great country of ours, and see who would be left standing. Hmmmm…I wonder. General Pace, are you listening?

   I have never been in the military and am not someone who supports the US military position or budgets or the policies of the US Department of Offense, but it seems a stretch to use the Roman practices as justification for changing modern military policies, as one message suggested. There are apparently many in the military brass who believe strongly that having open gays serve in the military would significantly harm morale. That is quite possibly true for a variety of reasons and quite possibly untrue for a variety of reasons. What is needed is some sort of experiment to determine the effect. I cannot understand why so few on either side of the debate appear to support such an experiment.

    If you can control the story you can shape the story. Have you noticed day in day out that the same journalists and the same media outlets are
    in the white house press room. There are plenty of Issues the question is who’s going to bring up the issues. Seems like are so called representatives are not going to do it. We need more than media-diversity, we need diversity in media. Until we stop paying for media that does not ask the tough questions, we will remain dumbed down.

    Jeeze, what freaked me most out in Rosa’s article is that soldiers have died of dehydration because they didn’t drink water in the evening because of the percieved (and probably real) danger in going out to the latrines at night.

    One doesn’t know what to do with the outrage.
