   I agree with Pierre Tristam in his praise of David Letterman’s eloquently simple but profound assessment found in “…Iraq is Ours…”

   Here’s another quote that says it all about the hubris of mainly the French,German and British Empires but especially the British when dealing with their respective colonies .

   When Gandhi was asked by a reporter , I think on his visit to England to talk to British Parliament about Indian independence ,” what do you think about Western Civilization? ” he quietly replied,” I think it would be a good idea.”

   Touche, Ronald White! Do any of you folks remember, speaking of Millers’ doing poor war jokes, Larry Miller on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” and all of his ill-informed opines and jokes as regards Iraq, et al.? I actually used to think L. Miller funny until I saw him on Maher’s show, where Miller revealed himself to be a total FASCIST, there are no less tame terminologies to be used here. You have only to hear and see it for yourself.

   And did you hear the one about the Iraqi who explained the big difference between life under Saddam and life under the US occupation?

   I used to have electricity in my home, and now I get it shot up my ass at Abu Ghraib.

   Pierre’s right. We know we’re in the deepest of doo-doo when the joke’s on us. I knew the Vietnam War was lost when I no longer could laugh at Bob Hope’s USO routine.

   I have to disagree with Letterman’s comment that “Iraq is ours”. Not only is it not funny, it’s extremely condescending. It’s this attitude that has brought us to the desperate situation we face today.

   Well this doesnt poke fun at the war per se but how about:

   After the failed attempt on Saddam’s life, the Iraqi Vice President called in Saddam’s bodyguards and told them:

   I have some good news and bad news for you.
   The good news is you still have a job.
   The bad news is he lost an arm.

   The attempt on Saddam’s life failed, but he did lose an arm. His body-doubles were told the “good news” and the “bad news”.

   Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast are not only juvenile, they’re based on wrong info. French Fries are named for the style of cutting the potatoes; frenchng. And the Toast was named for a Mr. French, an American who dreamed up the dish.

   To paraphrase Molly Ivins: Raise hell and don’t forget to laugh!

   If we can’t laugh at our current situation in Iraq, our only recourse is to cry. I have a tough time raising hell with my “representatives” in Congress to take action when I’m crying.

   So, raise hell, take action, and laugh!

   One joke making the rounds during the first Gulf war was: “What does SCUD stand for?” “Sure Could Use Direction.”

   The day after I heard that one, one of Saddam’s SCUDs hit a U.S. barracks in Saudi Arabia killing 120 or so Americans. Sorta put the kibosh on that joke.

    Lets not forget Bushs joke at a luncheon right after the Iraq invasion. He asked the crowd if they’ve seen WMD’s, while The screen above him showed pictures of Bush looking under his desk and behind the curtains in the Oval office!

    I see what he meant by restoring honor and dignity to the White House.

    People in the US don’t get it; everybody but you guys saw how far the jokes were off the mark in 2003. Those of us who like the US were cringing about it back then.
