I bet if you poke around in the muck you’ll find evidence of pressure on the yes-voters from AIPAC and Israeli right-wingers.
Bottom line: If you voted for the war early on and you’re not calling for impeachemnt now — don’t bother to run. We need real leaderships, not owned opportunists.
Fedup has nailed it. We just saw these AIPAC guys in action, forcing Pelosi to remove language that would have made a war with Iran a bit harder.
The Dems know who pays for their campaigns.
And had Obama been in office at the time, I guarantee you he would have voted “Yes.”
while i got non love for kerry it si true that he won that elecction - which is why members of the ohio board of elections are doing time now - blaming anything but fraud for bush being in the white house does us all a disservice.
I’m probably as or more tolerant than most of someone that makes a mistake, admits it, and takes action to correct it. What I am not tolerant of at all are those that make a mistake, admit it, and then want to continue the same foolish mistake they just admitted to. IE: Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, and Barack Obama have all said from what I’ve read that we will still need to keep troops in Iraq, even after the election. That isn’t taking corrective action but simply perpetuating the same mistake which negates their admissions and apologies.
Lobo Gris
As H. Clinton just recently said to potential voters, if the ? of how one voted in the lead up to the war is so important to you, there are others to choose from. This is the best advice Clinton has given us. Clearly, if one didn’t have the foresight back then, what makes you think that one would have it in the future.
Don Rose’s thoughtful piece is much appreciated, as are the comments above. For me it revives my support of Dennis Kucinich, not only for his courageous position on the disaster in Iraq, but also for his insight into the domestic problems that plague us; delivery of health care to name but one.
The question is, srstive, when Kucinich fails to get the nomination will you vote for a candidate who shares Kuncinich’s values or the DLC sellout that the Dems actually nominate? Kucinich will be on the sidelines encouraging you to vote against your–and his–values and programs in favor of the acceptably corporate and militaristic nominee of the party. When it’s lesser-evil time again, where will you stand?
I have long felt that if millions of us “ordinary” citizens knew that Bush & Company were making this all up and using 9/11 as an excuse to invade a country which had nothing to do with that day, then how did our “leaders” not know, and why in the world did they not do their homework? On October 11, 2002 when our congressional leaders gave the country to the crooks in charge, I was appalled at their stupidity and lack of knowledge. I still am. I will not support anyone who voted “yay” on that day.
