I predict that the bush regime will go down in flames over this attorney scandal - and the real question of his true high crimes will be put aside for future generations to unravel
Not delusional in the quoted passage, just a particularly obnoxious case of a typical equivocating American politician who happens to be verbally challenged. The dismissals themselves are another matter.

I see this whole fired attorneys thing being played out this way - the whole mess eventually ends up in the supreme court, and as they did in 2000 when they gave Bush the presidency, they’ll be giving him the supreme power to do whatever he “decides” to do, without having to answer to anyone.
“Does he not understand that the Senate is trying to figure out why Bush and his aides went after the fired prosecutors?
Does he not understand that the U.S. Attorneys in question will be testifying about wrongdoing by presidential appointees?”
My guess is that he understands all of this but just doesn’t give-a-s**t after being protected all these years by his good buddies John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzalez, not to mention the Republican-led Congress who refused oversite and rubber-stamped every breath this president had taken while they were in control.
What he refuses to understand is that a Democratic Congress is now in control; and with the help of Republicans who still have some testosterone left after their congressional “whips” castrated them, are stepping up to the plate to take back their investigative, subpoena, contempt, and perjury powers that were granted to them by the United States Constitution to keep the executive branch in check and to protect the citizens of this country from dictatorial rule.
Will wonders never cease?!
Maybe y’all get it but it does not seem so - Bush is the empty talking head with family connections. Cheney is the puppetmaster whose neocon agenda is rapidly working the system behind our backs to make an America “Union” with Canada and Mexico. There is a European Union already, you know. There is a huge NAFTA highway halving the nation under planning. Think of cost of the right-of-way land and destruction of family farms for a multi-football-field-wide roadway from Mexico to Canada. Plans go forward under the radar while Americans drive SUVs and buy more mind-numbing things to try to be happy. Blackwater and “contractors” like them will be the neocon police force so Bush does not have to care what he does or what he says…there is a plan somewhere behind all the reasonable rhetoric to take over somehow. He has put everything in place for agencies, utilities, manufacturers, oil interests, the law and the “Civil” police to mirror “1984″ thrice over. All he needs is a disaster or epidemic like bird flu to call for martial law then it is down the slippery slope to call off elections and remain the “decider” forever…
Whether the President is delusional is a serious question that has been overlooked for too long.
There’s no sign of Bush’s being DELUSIONAL in his remarks.
What the remarks reveal is that he really is none too bright, and he is so incurious that lacks motivation to find out what is going on.
It’s a bit like Fox News: the commentators are handed talking points. So is Bush. Sadly, he has no interest in understanding what he is saying.
take the word ‘regrettable’. looking at the written word, ‘regrettable’ can have many meanings depending of course on the context of its use. listening to the ’spoken’ word, ‘regrettable’ certainly narrows its meaning. i was appalled the other evening when a president of the united states used that word and ’spoke’ that word in such a threatening tone. president bush is watching too many episodes of ‘the sopranos’. the tiniest bit of backbone shown to this man and he switches his persona to the spoiled little brat and wants to take his toys and go home! he not only threatened our elected representatives in congress, he also threatened the very fiber of our nation and its people. i have argues against impeachment for six years. i have finally run out of arguments against impeachment! yes, i didn’t vote for the man in either election. there is far too much damage this man and his administration can inflict on ‘we the people’ between now and 20 january 2009. i know that our choices of candidates more often than not leave much to be desired. a recent poll taken stated that personal traits are more important to the voter than anything else. where did these people go come election day? if ‘we the people’ don’t like our choices of candidates, why not send a message back to the respective party conventions and tell them to try again! my hope is that we can repair the damage already done to this country. delusional, i am not sure captures this man. i know that president clinton said yes, he tried marijuana, but he ‘never inhaled’.. yes define ‘inhaled’. i believe president bush must have tried marijuana only he has ‘never exhaled’. good luck, america! and a politically-incorrect, god bless!
I think montemerrick has it right, for some reason, this is the case that will open the can or worms that is the Bush (mis)administration. I don’t think the Supreme Court will support the Unitary Executive on this as it in no way can be construed to have anything to do with Nat’l Security

Is it that complicated? Not that I want to defend the murderer of so many innocents, but the interpretation should be based on what he is not saying. In “Bush speak” it’s …these people were fired because they didn’t do the job I wanted, but they are decent people. Let’s not trash the person. jingerw, I don’t think that’s quite true. If you listen to what Bush DOES say, it’s all there. In fact Bush always tells the real reason. He’s too dumb to fabricate any kind of a convincing lie.:

They’re decent people. They serve at our pleasure. And yet, now, they’re being held up in the scrutiny of all this. And it’s just — what I said in comments, I meant about them. I appreciated their service, and I’m sorry that the situation has gotten to where it’s got. But that’s Washington, D.C., for you. You know, there a lot of politics in this town.”
Translation:
I appointed them, so they should have kowtowed to everything my minions and I ever requested. They didn’t. I therefore unfurled the gates of hell against them. I can’t understand why they haven’t curled up and died. See? I’m a kinda slow learner and this not-controlling-congress thing hasn’t sunk in quite yet. Before I could just shake my rattle and they would go away. So now I’m going to hide behind the Big Lie that Washington will always make something out of nothing. And you’re going to believe it. BECAUSE I’M BABY BUSH AND YOU’RE NOTHING!
One more key to it is this:
His reference to “decent people” means “normally harmless to Bush” or “innocuous”. Read every compliment not as genuine but a “back-slapping” domineering disparagement.

He has been protected from the consequences of his actions his whole life. From not earninng passing grades in college to not being court martialed for failinng to complete his National Guard obligations; that one after being jumped over 130 that were in line ahead of him.

My take is tht this is a veiled threat against the fired attorneys. He is saying that if this goes forward and they continue to make public comments about the administrtion’s strong arm tactics, there will be accusations against them (true or not, but being cooked up as we speak) that will destroy their careers. It’s the same tactic used against Joe Wilson, Dan Rather, and anyone else who impugns the honor of Bush or his cronies.
Delusional? Don’t know about that. Bottom-of-the-barrel stupid? Absolutely. Resorted again the other day to calling Democrats and anybody that doesn’t make nice “you people.”
Who saw his interview with Russert as the 2004 race was gearing up? The last time they let the poor boy out without a leash. Even though I wish Chaney had shot him in the face, even I was embarassed for boy blunder during that interview. When Russert presssed W he started mixing up all the slogans and hogwash until he was completely incoherent. Russert looked like he’d seen a ghost and I was sure the Pres soiled himself.

Bush’s concern over the eight is nothing more than a veiled threat to their reputations if they continue to speak out, which is their right. What history will say of Bush is that there was no person occupying the office that was ever a lower . . . (fill in the blank).
What you all are missing is the replacements: 1 has no license, 1 has never been in a court room to try a case before and 1 has no degree in law! No one is asking the question, are the replacements qualified? And I use no paragraphs at all just for you!

I think as far as Bush’s delusion is concerned, his whole administration is sort of willfully self-delusional. They take no responsibility for any of the consequences they bring about.
Bush co. suffer from ignorance with tragic consequences. The ignornance of the extremely selfish. To some extent I’m afraid so does a notable percentage of the legislature we elected.
“consequences” is what happens to “other people” - that doesn’t make you delusional, it makes you a tyranical sociopath. And how people love their tyrants - Napolean, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Idi Amin - the list is endless. Iraqis even miss Saddam - but now they have hindsight, which is usually 20/20.
What all despots have in common is contempt for other people, paranoia, self-pity, an enormous inferiority complex, and the determination to destroy ‘evil’ as they see it. Anyone who disagrees with them is ‘evil’ -so it’s always “clobberin’ time” (and they are always the ‘hero’ in their fantasies.)
The reason tyrants are so loathesome and despicable is because there ARE NO CONSEQUENCES for them - Bush was bright enough to learn that much from Pappy. He knows exactly what he’s doing - after all, he says outright that ‘he is the decider’ - and that it’s easier to rule as a dictator. Don’t say you weren’t warned - he spelled it out quite clearly, albeit in fractured English. Tyrants always announce their intentions - that’s what makes the payoff so satisfying (for them). And they take ‘full responsibility’ for every favorable event while blaming those ‘evil others’ for everything that goes wrong. Surely Americans recognize this archetype - the CEO-type looters and pillagers that ravage every generation and still can’t manage to exorcise their own personal demons.
It’s not ‘delusion’ so much as ‘denial’ that does it. That’s why there can’t ever be a ‘civil debate’ - any challenge to authority is viewed as a personal attack. Kill the messenger - that’s the ultimate terrorism against any dissent in the ranks. (You guys in the military know exactly what I mean.)
He just knows how easy it is to mislead us. He thinks we are delusional. And he’s had six years of reality TV and a soft headed press to accommodate him.
It’s hard to believe that a person who attended Yale and Harvard can still sound so much like a Texas redneck. It’s even harder to believe so many people voted for him because he “seemed like a person you could have a beer with.” Is he delusional or is it the American voters who are delusional?
In regard to the question above about the replacements qualifications, does it really matter if they are qualified? It seems the eight were fired because they were following the law instead of Bushco guide lines. That doesn’t seem like a legitimate reason to fire a Federal Judge. I guess Bush hired them, so he can fire them, but it just doesn’t seem right. But then doing the right thing isn’t something Bushco is familiar with.
The other day I watched my grandson placed as goalee on his soccer team. He continually rushed the opposing teams players who came too close to the goal which seemed to freak them out so that the ball was always kicked out of pointing position. I guess we could call this the Bush defense; attack from a defensive position and hope the other side freaks out enough not to score. May be good in sports but very bad in politics and government.
